Custom Entry Doors

Looking for a recommendation for someone that can make custom entry doors for us. The building is not landmarked but has an arched opening and would like to recreate what was there originally. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

@brucef Thanks! Not sure if they still do – he said it’d cost $500 extra for him to come to our place; I will mention that you recommended him, though. Well that’s the best picture I had with me down in FL. That was during installation before paint, hardware etc. That green pattern in foreground is top of ladder. Their work is wonderful, a throwback to a time 100 years ago. I don’t know if they still periodically come down to NYC??

@brucef We are looking into Jim I’s work now, based on this forum, for our custom entry doors. Do you have pics of the work that he did? Unfortunately, I’m not able to drive up to his place, so we’d like him to come down and take measurements here in Fort Greene. Would love if you could post some photos of his work, based on your positive feedback here! @leftbankdesing @brooklyn11215 Did you end up finding good vendors? Referrals would be helpful!

We spent 45.00 in gas, and probably 25.00 in tolls. I did not have to pay to get rid of a crate. I got to have a person to person chat with a vendor. Next year when I need a favor, I’m not the too busy to meet, I’m the guy who took the time. In a lifetime of business, I’ve always tried to make it personal. It’s the difference between paying retail and wholesale.

wow bruce that’s 10 hours round trip not counting loading and chit chat. $500 sounds like a steal after considering mileage and gas.

Our pairs of doors were 30″,with 6 lights@. They are rectangular and we had them primed. Everything is custom, but their workmanship and pricing reflects their location … 10 minutes from Lake Ontario. Shipping and crating was going to be $500.00 more, so I drove up and tied them onto the roof of my wagon.

Jim Ingleworth, Adams,NY. We just got our 2nd set of exterior doors from them Friday. We went this time to their shop. Well worth the trip, as most of their machines are 100 years old. Some of their machines came from Hughes Aircraft, back from when Howard Hughes made planes of wood. They make fan lights etc from scratch. Say Bruce recommended them. Talk to Sue.

I know [this guy](http://www.brownstonewoodrestoration.com/) does restoration (did a lovely job on our entry doors), but I’m not sure if he builds from scratch. Even if he doesn’t, he might know who does.
