Best weatherstripping method for new brownstone doors?
hi all, we are having new doors made (old ones were shot–copying to landmark specs) and have some weather strip choices to make. i went to blueman hardware on bowery and saw a whole board of options–some surface mount, some that have to be inserted into the wood at bottom of door. (we can still do this–doors are still being built). any thoughts on best option? surface mount w/ hard-ish rubber flap at bottom, vs softer tube of rubber? or better to build into door? or does that weaken door wood? (1-3/4″ oak). if surface mount–put on inside or outside? or what about the saddle with the built in soft rubber tube? the brush seems like a bad idea, just dirty and gross. but all others seem like options…any and all advice welcome–thank you for any input!
