2 exit requirements

Hello, In the apartment that I rent and which is located on the ground floor in a 4 fam.brownstone,I have two doors (one of them is regular door, another one is glass french door).It is pretty typical for brownstones,when both doors are leading into apatment from the hallway. The question is, if I use only one door to enter/exit the apartment, can I block the french door with sheetrock. Are there any regulations that the apartment must have 2 doors?I know that rules change pretty often,so wondering if anyone know updated regulations about this or may send me a link where I can find an answer. Thank you

you need to make sure any room that has fixed window bars has two forms of egress.  if something happened, i would not be surprised if you were held liable.  it could be an issue with your landlord’s insurance, i which case they might come after you if someone were injured or there was loss of life (not to mention the risk of your own).  also, i’m pretty sure any landlord would be downright ticked off if you did this without permission, and some might even try to evict you.   so you should ask yourself if this kind of thing is really worth it when you could simply hide it with some non-permanent drapes etc.

Why don’t you ask your landlord if you can make the change first?  It is not you house to make those kind of changes without permission.
