Permits for electrical breaker box ?

Do I need a permit to replace a breaker box? The one we have is Federated Pacific. and needs to go

This is a single family. I had heard that since this is recall there was no permit required as long as the electrician was properly licensed?

Federal pacific breakers were a fire hazard…and yes you need a permit to replace it especially if you are in a condo or coop

After doing a bit of reading I learned that it isn’t enough to replace the circuit breakers alone and that Federal Pacific panel boxes should indeed be replaced.

Technically yes. But breaker boxes rarely need to be replaced. Why does yours? Is it the older style with “Stab-Lok” breakers? Newer Federal Pacific breakers are easily replaced without a permit.

I’m not an expert, but isn’t it just the Federated Pacific circuit breakers that need to be replaced? If so, and you can keep the existing box, I don’t think you’d need a permit. However I might well be wrong, in which case I hope someone more knowledgeable might chime in.
