Oil Tank Removal FDNY Permit Gas Conversion

Hi Everyone,

I was curious if someone knew the answer to this. I have just completed an oil to gas conversion. Previously I had to have FDNY come inspect the oil tank and I would pay $90 for a permit that I think lasted 2 or 3 years.

Now that i’ve converted and the plumbers removed the tank, do I need to do anything with FDNY? The plumbers told me they submitted to DOB a letter stating they removed the tank and that was enough. Does anyone know if that is true? Just don’t want to run into an issue a few years down the line that we missed some paperwork and I get hit with a fine

They also need to pour concrete down the oil filler tube. When the city came to I spent the gas installation they checked the oil filler tube.

I had oil to gas conversion in August 2015. The plumber filed everything online. You can check the DOB website to make sure the filing is reflected. If not, bug your plumber. The fire inspector showed up in May 2016 as they didn’t know about the conversion, inspected the cellar and left. I had followed up with the Fire Department and they said all was in order, no need to do anything.

I had my huge oil tank removed by a company that specialized in this work. They provided me with a document to present to the fire department when/if they ask about the work.

I converted from oil to gas four years ago. My plumber submitted the paperwork and I have not had a visit from the FDNY since.

I had a similar situation- crazy as it sounds the fdny insisted on doing their own inspection and would not accept the dob paperwork – seriously it was crazy-

Get copies of all the paperwork filed by your plumber along with receipts that the DOB etc received it and keep it in your files for future reference.
