Gas vs electric cooktop in my basement apartment
Just a heads up …are you sure you have a basement? ..it should be more then 50% above grade (the sidewalk outside) If not it’s a cellar and having an apartment down there will be an issue.

I’m renovating a 2 family and one of the two apartments will be in the basement. We have a new gas line running in the small kitchen and the idea was to have a gas cooktop but now I’m thinking that I might prefer electric. Can I cap the gas line and put an electric cooktop instead? Will the DOB accept this or will they require a gas cooktop to sign off since we put in a new gas line?

You cannot cap gas line. Plumber must remove or disconnect gas line from point of connection to the gas supply and remove the tee from active gas line. No unions allowed. Use left right coupling. Alteration to existing gas line must be filed, tested, inspected and signed off.
