Fire extinguisher requirements in multi-family

I just had my annual (?) inspection by FDNY for my 3 family. They find exactly one thing to ding me for every year. This time it was fire extinguishers. I believe you need an ABC extinguisher outside the boiler room, not certain of size. It must EITHER be a year old or inspected. So you can either pay to have it tagged as inspected OR buy a new one every year. I’m planning to buy a new one every year and spread the other ones around the house (as long as the pressure gauges still show them as good).

I recently bought a multi-family building and the prior owner had a number of fire extinguishers hung up in the cellar. None seem to have any inspection tags on them. I understand that I need an inspected /tagged unit outside the furnace room but wondered if there were requirements (size, inspection tagging, placement, etc.) for them in other parts of the building?
