Woohoo! I said they made three attempts, but I was wrong. It seems it’s two.

Now given this success, have you considered filling the pool with champagne or dollar bills to really stick it to the neighbors?

Rarely does the DOB pursue a warrant, and for something like this I highly doubt it. Really you should never let in an inspector unless you have a permit open, in which case you need to think more about your options.

Let me ask you a question: can you move the pool 9 inches away from the property lines? Probably it woud be a headache, but maybe it can be done next time you drain down the pool.

I was thinking of doing that by the end of the season. But even if I do they would still need to come and check. And the other issue it have: it’s says if the width of the property is less than 25 then 3 ft from property lines. If 25ft and more 5 ft. My property is exactly 25ft. I just hope they won’t say 5 ft away. Because it would be too much headache

They won’t come back unless someone complains again. Then if you don’t let them in it’s the same as what we mentioned. They don’t really have time to go enforce small issues.

Lol, they won’t. And they won’t collect if you dont feel like paying. House on the block had scores of visits, fines and an eviction. Ppl never moved out and nothing happens unless the owner makes a case. If you are the owner they wont do anything, maybe in Park Slope or the Heights….

They will collect for some violations, speaking from personal experience. It comes down to the class of violation. Eviction is probably hard especially now.

DOB may well send it to DEP for misuse of domestic water. How when did you fill it up?
One of my contractors that lives in Staten Island, got a huge triple water use bill for his above ground pool after DOB failed to find a violation that stuck.

so resident 2: this is just curiosity. how is someone supposed to fill a pool? in any other jurisdiction they use a garden hose and house water. except one of my neighbors. he was a high ranking fire official and he had a fire truck pull up and fill his pool once.
