How do I sell fine art prints?

I have a set of limited addition fine art prints I’d like to sell. I bought them 30 yrs ago but my tastes have changed and they don’t really fit in our house. How does one go about selling things like this? Internet research shows they are worth between $7,000 and $14,000\.

If that is historical and you think with a great story in it aside from its value, then there are few pawnshops in Vegas that accept anything old. Try it, you can also put that one up to an auction. But like you said that was old enough, still I guess that you value from it aside from cash. I suggest that have that one reprinted to at least you have reprint copy of that original art, there are many company that offers art reproduction through reprinting in vinyl format, silkcreen, canvas and more. Alvar Sunol has a website (googled him) and it lists galleries that carry his work. You could likely get retail values from the artist or one of his galleries so you have a sense of the value of the prints.

That might be there retail value but I don’t think thats the price you will get in the secondary market.  The artist’s paintings seem to be in the $2000-$4000 range, so I don’t see how lithographs would sell for that price. http://artsalesindex.artinfo.com/asi/security/landing-page.ai

I felt like responding here and asking “what is your address and where to you store them”. I have thought a lot about how to sell artwork on ebay as I have a handcolored limited edition print which I found in the trash in Manhattan years ago.  It too is worth money – for insurance purposes – but that does not mean there is a market for it on ebay. I have thought about posting mine there and if I did – and I might now that your post reminded me of this – I would put it on a “29 day list it until it sells”  auction.  even though that is a 29 day auction, it will renew until it sells or you cancel it; I have some specialized tools on there now for several months.  Also, when doing this, you do not run a typical auction, you give the buyer a “buy it now price” which you set high.  they can make an offer which you can have set to accept or decline and ebay will let you know one has been auto declined and you can decide whether to accept it or not.  This allows you a lot of control.  this will also allow you the time needed for dealers or collectors to find your artwork there as I do not think ebay is really the place for true art – that does not mean I would not try it and I probably will with the piece I have that floats in the dollar range you mention for yours – but it could take months. Its a suite of 5 lithographs from Sunol Alvar properly framed but in 80s style metal ones. I bought them in Chicago around 1986 but I have no idea who carries this artist here.

Depends a bit on how desirable they are, and how much in a hurry you are.  As a good first step, call the print departments at Christie’s and Sotheby’s.  You’ll get a preliminary idea from that.  You can also track down galleries that carry the artist (I gather it’s just one artist?).  I’m also in the process of investigating the online auctions run by one of the art magazines – it’s embarrassing that I can’t call the exact name to mind – maybe Artnews?  I have no idea if Ebay would be good for this kind of thing – I’d worry about the sight-unseen element.

You could sell them through an auction house or see if a gallery that handles the work would want to buy them or take them on consignment. There’s also Ebay.
