Looking for good contractor for buildng roof deck
Have you thought about aluminum grating? This was used on a portion on the highline and requires very little maintenance.

I’d like to build a wood or Trex deck on our townhouse roof — does anyone have a recently used deck builder they could recommend? I know that a permit is required (we are in Cobble Hill landmark district) so we want someone who can handle the process start to finish. Also, if we file to build a deck that is not visible from the street, do we need both buildings dept and landmark approval? thanks everyone

Sounds like you’d need an architect as well for Landmarks and DOB approval. Landmarks may be very easy if you can demonstarte that it’s not visible from the street. And yes, you need their approval even if it can’t be seen. DOB shouldn’t be too tough either as long as you adhere to the code. One part that often trips people up is that you can only cover 20% of the roof area with combustible material, and Trex is combustible.

@gbcvr did you find a good contractor for your roof deck? I’m now looking for the same. Thanks!
