Interlocking Deck Tiles over Steel Bar Grating Deck?
Hello,
I have a deck with a steel bar grating floor. Since the holes are quite large, furniture will be tricky. To remedy this, I’m thinking of installing interlocking deck tiles, but I’ve only seen them installed over concrete.
Does anyone know if interlocking deck tiles can be installed over steel bar grating?
Thanks!

I’ve done what your suggesting with decent success. Search Home Depot or Wayfair for “NewTech Wood” – it’s a whole series of interlocking composite tiles in many color choices. Also plenty of edging and trim options which is what sold me – helps it look more finished. Because they are sitting on the metal grates, it does “give” a bit at the seams when you walk but overall I’m pleased for the price point. I’ve had it 2 years through all season with no issues. Good luck.

I have a client that used the Ikea wood deck tiles and it worked well over this kind of steel deck. We’ve actually just put an outdoor rug over our steel deck and it’s worked nicely. Just replaced it after a few years.

Thanks for the response. The Ikea representative I spoke with wasn’t particularly knowledgeable… But I’ll try a different location and look into more specialty vendors to ask. Appreciate the advice!

I don’t see why not, but what do I know? Couldn’t the sellers of the tiles tell you, assuming you buy from a place where salespeople know stuff (I. e. not HD)?
