Deck builder recommendation: Lopoplo Iron Works

Hi great deck, Planning on having Lopopolo come to give an estimate for the steel frame for the deck I’m planning. Big question, did they help you file permits, did you have to do this yourself, or? I’m trying to figure out how to best go about getting my deck up as soon as possible, with as little trouble as possible. Thanks and looking forward to hearing back.

This is a long overdue recommendation for Joseph Lopopolo and his company Lopopolo Iron Works.  We used Lopopolo to build the metal frame for our 16’x12′ new deck last spring.  Joseph was very prompt in returning all my calls, answering all my questions, providing his bid, and getting the job done to code.  We built the back deck during what was a truly awful renovation experience with another company and it was extremely refreshing to find  a company who did what they said they would, in the timeframe promised, for the budget agreed to.  I got several bids on our deck and Lopopolo’s was the strongest (i think it was about $7,000).  Joseph was very professional, courteous, and always followed up to make sure we were happy with the product as the deck went up.  It took them about 2 days to get the deck up and they returned after our IPE wood was laid down to touch up the paint on the steel. We were out on the deck this weekend with our kids enjoying the winter sunshine and remembered I had meant to give them a shout out here since I found them through another happy customer on Brownstoner a year ago. I also had a recent good experience with Lopopolo. And the Ipe deck was built by Steve Raboy. Well priced, responsive, and they completed the work quickly. Have had the deck for about a month and really like it.

We also had a deck built by Lopopolo and Ipe installed by Steve Rayboy and had a great experience with both of them – professional, quick, reasonably priced and they did a great job.

Brooklynreno do you have any other pics online? I really liek the look of your railing etc, though would really like to see so some closer shots particularly of the metal section on the left/right for fire compliance.

also do you have any access under the deck? ours is over a rooftop that we need access to occasionally for repairs/maintenance etc.

the deck is about 20X8 and i’ve posted a picture below of the railing. i hope having that railing within 3 feet of the neighbor won’t be a problem for compliance – for some reason i just assumed it wouldn’t since it’s so small.  we can access the deck from the floor below.  our backyard is a mess in the attached picture, but this should give you an idea.  the cost was ~15,000 without wood steps.

btw can you snap a photo near the edge of the wood deck (eg the 3 ft line) i’m hoping to understand if you can get access underneath/how it was attached or how do you replace the IPE in the future is it just metal from boundary to boundary?

aq2101 Who did your IPE wood? I’m looking for someone to lay the wood on our similarly sized deck.
