Want to Improve the appearance & durability of my home's exterior

Hello, I am currently looking to improve the appearance, strength and durability of my home exteriors. There are multiple natural stones available in the market to be used in home’s exteriors. Are there any other alternatives available for the exteriors other than those conventionally used stones? Can anyone suggest me regarding the same.

There are many ways of improving your home exterior. For example you can use a nice paint to paint your exterior walls with . For example like the houses in these slide. http://www.bhg.com/home-improvement/exteriors/curb-appeal/before-and-after-home-exteriors/ As for driveways, and I believe you are talking about driveways , well concrete driveway tends to be strong and firm but is prone to cracks. There are also driveways made of Asphalt, Gravel, Pavers (the usual ones). The other lesser known types of driveways are the tar and chip driveways. http://garages.about.com/od/buildingagarage/a/Pros-And-Cons-Of-A-Tar-And-Chip-Driveway.htm Tar and chip driveways are useful if you looking for much cheaper options. I have heard that driveways made of gravel and loose stones (ie usual stones simply dumped on the driveway path) are cheaper and last longer. So you can always use driveways made of gravel.

Nothing carries pedigree and permanence like stone. It’s a great option for dressing up exterior features such as concrete foundations, column footings, and other masonry details. Natural and manufactured stone can be costly options for large expanses, but both are affordable and well suited for use as accent material.

samarth you need to be more specific. If you are talking about a driveway only, and not the exterior facade of your building, that would be different than what those in this thread have assumed. This being brownstoner, realtiveley few have driveways. Having said that, i have no idea because i have never had a driveway, just a stoop. You may want to start a new thread with “WANT TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE & DURABILITY OF MY DRIVEWAY”

My driveway is made up of bricks through which cracks have developed. One of my architects suggested me to go with the option of redesigning with natural stones. He suggested me that stone driveways have good durability and highlighted the porosity angle as well. What options should I consider to install a new stone driveway?

There are cracks running across my bricked floor. Facing moisture issues as well. Should I resurface it or go with the option of redesigning? What options are available to overcome such issues?

Best is to restore the home to it’s original appearance. Using permastone type material detracts from the appearance and looks tacky.

I would suggest that you consult an architect to design an exterior appropriate to whatever the structure is that you are working with. Is your current structure Brick, Block, Frame?

This kind of “improvement” wouldn’t be appropriate for the homes most readers of this site care about and wouldn’t be permitted in designated Historic Districts.
