Request for recommendations / proposals for building a roof deck

Dear Brownstoner Community, I am planning on building a roof deck on a North Slope Co-Op building (5 unit brownstone in landmark district). The deck will be between 400 and 450 sqft large, a relatively simple platform, maybe with planters on two sides and built-in bench. I have an architect and an engineer who are doing the inspections, paperwork, and planning of the project. I am looking for a contractor to BUILD the deck once approved and planned. The MY QUESTIONS: – Do you have concrete recommendations (i.e., a contractor who built your deck who you would recommend)? – If you are a contractor with experience yourself, please feel free to contact me also! – Those of you who have built a similar deck – what was the range of building costs (material and labor, not planning) you ended up with? I love, love, love my contractor and my just finished roof deck is beyond amazing (soho, about 600 sq feet). Tomasz construction. We did a pergola, side fencing and lattice, some steps, everyone is wowed…

Cost varies with materials and contractors. Get bids of course. Am chiming in to let you know that back-decks have been demolished prior to resale’s closing if not done by permit. So file your job, or … be prepared to abandon it. jsyk Good luck w/ this.

My recommendation is that you work in something for shade over part of it, if you can, as you will appreciate use in your deck more that way.

Though she built me a yard deck, Susan of Sketch and Hammer has a lot of experience with roof decks too and what she built for me was quite nice.
