HUB Plan Examiner Issues

Has anyone ever had to ask for a DOB plan examiner to be removed from their job filing and is it indeed possible to do so? Since our initial approvals we have had to file a small amendment to our plans and have been assigned a different plan examiner. This new plan examiner is proving to be a big problem, they are arrogant, have an attitude, refuse to listen to reason, have problems reading the simplest of plans and look for any excuse to end the HUB call and get back to doing what ever they do not do. We have had 4+ HUB meetings regarding this small amendment and every time the examiner finds the first thing they can that is incorrect and ends the call there, telling us we have to resubmit and schedule another review rather than find all issues at once. Each new review costs us almost a month in waiting for a new appointment thru the HUB. HELP. T

You can’t change plan examiners. Problems you mentioned are why a non-hub application is better

That’s odd…I have plenty of issues with DOB and the HUB, but have never had them refuse to review things the way you’re describing. Your architect should go to the next meeting in person. I think it will be harder for the plan examiner to blow them off, and if he tries to, I would politely insist that we use up all of our allotted time. If the examiner still won’t cooperate, I’d (very) politely insist that the chief plan examiner join us to work this out. Waiting a month for an appointment is also longer than I’m seeing these days. Results will vary depending on each plan examiner’s workload, but we requested an appointment on Thursday, and had it today (although 2 weeks is more typical). I don’t believe they’ll let you just switch examiners – otherwise every shady developer and their architect would be switching examiners constantly to get the one they know/want. Good luck. jcarch ??????? [James Cleary Architecture](http://www.jcarchitecture.com)
