How to check dumpster permits?

Hi, Does anyone know how to check whether a dumpster has a permit? An apartment building across the street has parked a dumpster directly in front of my house. They have been dumping ripped out plaster and lath into it, and getting dust and debris all over the sidewalk, stoop, front yard, when they transfer the material for removal. I’m not thrilled with having construction debris all over, undoubtedly containing lead, given that I have a young child. I’m going to run a lead test on the debris as well. I suppose I would call 311 in the case of lead? Haley

All dumpsters placed on the street must have a DOT permit and the permit posted . No need to call 311\. Just have a polite word with the boss and foreman and see how they can address your concerns . Renovation and construction will always be a nuisance , but remember , it’s better for the neighborhood in the long run .

Dumpsters are defined as all containers used for the collection and disposal of trash and recyclable materials. Previously, the license requirement was a lifetime license that only applied to dumpsters larger than one cubic yard. The license applicant must also continue to obtain placement approval from the Department of Streets for any dumpster in the public right-of-way.

There are no pretty ways to gut buildings, it is noisy and messy. Granted, it’s not fun living around a gut, but this is part of the rise in neighborhood value.

The contractor should be wetting down the debris to prevent dust. See info on lead safety for demolition and construction. I would suggesting calling the owner of the building and expressing your concerns.

Check for regular construction or demo permits. i believe that dumpsters are included with those. All that said, we’re going to have a dumpster full of plaster and lathe and probably lead paint dust all over our street as well and it never occurred to me that someone with small children might have an issue with that.

how about talking to the neighbor about it and ask them to please move the dumpster? why would your first instinct be to call the city?! what is wrong with people these days???? also, do they have construction permits? if so i would assume the dumpster is permitted as well. for fuck’s sake let your neighbor do their renovation and just keep your kid away from the dumpster! unless he/she is literally inhaling dust or eating chips of paint there is zero harm that it can do. sheesh.
