Can I leave permit open indefinitely
Permit is good for one year. You can reinstate application within 1 years after expiration with the fee. After that you have refile job to close.

I’d like to spare you all the details, as this is a complicated story. But my wife and I are at the end of an Alt-2 extensive renovation. There is no CofO as the house is very old and we weren’t changing it’s use. Everything is permitted. Plumbing is signed off. We cannot get our electrician to finish the job. He even advised that we just leave the permit open. Forever. I know this is fishy on his part, but what would happen with our permit at the DOB? Would it expire? Would it disappear? Would it become a violation?

The electric sign off is separte from DOB. Not connected. Just close out the project. Get your lawyer to write a letter to the electrican.
