Beware J's Custom Contracting/Joe Maldonado

He’s charming, gracious and generous on the front end, and his prices are reasonable. He comes charging in full bore eager to please. Then he disappears for weeks at a time. When you point out problems, he gets very unpleasant and defensive. If he makes a mistake, good luck getting him to take any responsibility. Instead of dealing with your job, you’re constantly dealing with his feelings while wondering when he’s going to come back to complete what you paid for him to do. And after the job is done, he does not stand by the work. He added a staircase in our yard and took out a wall that effectively insulated our kitchen sink. When the sink froze the following winter, he acted as if we had been derelict for failing to specify that we preferred the pipes not freeze!

I don’t usually post, but I had such a different experience with J’s Custom Contracting that I wanted to share my perspective. I worked with J’s Custom Contracting on two projects. The first was a roof replacement, which involved correcting another contractor’s less than stellar work. This was an easy project and I found Joe Maldonado and J’s team professional and thorough so I had them bid on the entire renovation of our home. The bid was reasonable and during the bidding process I was impressed by Joe’s thoughtful approach to the project and presentation of different construction options, some of which actually lowered the overall budget of the project. A mechanical engineer and two architects were involved with this renovation and all three of them were very impressed by J’s professionalism and have since referred him to other clients. The end product is beautiful and solid and J’s have returned to take care of a few minor issues that are always a by product of new construction. I would unequivocally recommend Joe Maldonado and J’s Custom to anyone.
