Any Regrets on Recommending a Contractor?

just curious whether anything he did has held up?  we were considering calling him for some work in our cellar that requires some competency/subcontractor across several trades.  we are having a hard time finding someone who will do this small-ish job and he seemed like a good candidate…bummer.

I haven’t posted in the forum for quite some time.  A few years back I recommended the contractor who worked on my home on this forum.  I was pleased with the work at the time and it showed very well once he finished.  I’m afraid that after four years the work is not holding up.  This contractor “replaced the roof,” but I had problems with the roof soon after.  Needless to say, I had to completely replace the roof last year after only two years among other things.  I’m on here because I did recommend him on the forum numerous times.  I even went as far as emailing pictures to people of the before and after.  Grant it, the work looked great at the time. In all honesty, I personally don’t think we can judge a contractor’s work until we see if it holds up.  I think everyone would agree that a roof should not have to be replaced after only two years. I hope whoever used him from my recommendations is not experiencing the same thing, if so, I deeply apologize.

Oh come on, don’t make us do legwork….we want names! 😉 This is why it’s important to educate yourself on your house. DIY isn’t for everyone, but if you’re doing a major renovation, you should at least know the basics so you can oversee the contractors you hire. And then fix their mistakes when they inevitably mess up.

RH–the contractor’s name is Thahal Beer (Beer Home Improvement).  You’re absolutely right!!  Unfortunately, I didn’t know the basics at that time. In the future, I will be better educated on the subject.  I hope my post will help someone else.
