Porter/Janitor services for a 3-family building

I just moved back to the area after being out of town for 4 years. Had a management company running my 3-family building and I am now slowly taking over responsibilities. I want to hire a porter/janitor to keep the hallways clean and take the garbage/recycling out twice a week. Keeping the guy on who’s doing it now will cost me $250/month which really seems high to me. Does anyone have recommendations of someone they like who might be more affordable? Or is this the going rate…. I’m in Boerum Hill/Gowanus. Thanks!

I dont think it’s high.  I own a cleaning and maintenance company and I usually work with developers and contractors.  We were just hired to do the porter/janitorial duties and I am charging a base price of $325 per month in Brooklyn Heights and I had one in Prospect Heights for $375(base).  This does not include shoveling for snow or anything extra of that nature.  We provide these services to six buildings in Brooklyn all aboiut the same size. After that $325 I have to pay my employee… Pay Taxes… Pay Insurance… Supplies, etc I am not left with much.  So at $250 you should be satisfied with the service.   Whether or not he piggy backs thats not your concern, he’s trying to make a living… The fact that 1,000 people bought the same TV at Best Buy that doesnt mean Best Buy should lower the price of the TV the more units they sell… Sure in a perfect world but…

that doesn’t sound that high to me. you are paying someone to come out 2x a week. You have to factor in travel time that he has to mop the hallway. I would think you are talking an hour each time. The fact that for someone who would do a good job, $50ish a week to come out to do that isn’t worth the effort.
