Chimney Co Recommendations needed re installing liner

Hi Need recommendation for chimney co. from people who had liner installed. Anyone have their top floor wall broken to fit the liner in? Thank you for any input you may give me.

Owest, it’s very messy but obviously they take precautions –basically using plastic taped to the ceiling to seal off the area. We didn’t have a steel liner installed (which I believe can be “dropped” down the chimney.) Instead, they built a new flue within the chimney using terracotta pieces joined together. Hence the need to break the wall. You then need an expert plasterer to skim coat the area after the hole has been patched. So, not for the faint hearted!

Hi NeoGrec What was it like to have them break through the brick of the line to fit the liner? I am wondering how dirty/messy this will be. And what can I do to prepare for this process? Thank you!

We used Andre at A&A to rebuild two fireplaces which had originally been used as forced hot air vents (not solid fuel burning). He was very thorough and knowledgeable. We did have a problem about a year later when it appeared smoke was leaking from the smoke chamber of one fireplace into our neighbor’s house. He came back, found a tiny hole his guys had missed when sealing the smoke chamber and fixed it. Yes, this involved breaking through the chimney breast for the 2nd time. It was traumatic but I mention it because so few tradesmen these days will take responsibility for fixing an error. I remain impressed that Andre did.

Second for Andre at A&A. He lined our chimney for a new gas boiler. As housepoorer stated, they were fast, clean and a fair price.

I used A&A for a chimney inspection and was less than impressed. The guy seemed rushed, didn’t really answer any questions, and they didn’t follow thru with the paperwork they said they would send. But they were very diligent in getting paid.
