Where to buy cellar trap door mats/covers?
We have a water issue in the unfinished portion of our cellar and believe it may come from water coming in through the gaps around the iron trap door entrance to this area. I have seen other brownstones with what appears to be specially made mats that cover the trap door, perhaps made of rubber, and designed to protect against water. Does anyone know where I could buy something like this? I’ve googled and searched this site without any leads. Many thanks in advance.

Canal Rubber: http://www.canalrubber.com/ Hardware stores also sell rubber mats by the foot, but they’re only 3 feet wide, which usually doesn’t give enough overlap on the sides. A previous poster said he had used adhesive=backed weather=stripping around the edge of the opening doors, and that helped with leaks as well. I’m about to try that.

try Grainger or Mcmaster Carr. Both have websites, though Grainger claims to be strictly business-to-business. Steve

I don’t know the aesthetic you’re seeking but you could try something basic like this: http://www.americanfloormats.com/corrugated-rubber-runner-mats/
