Water in our Basement!
We are looking for someone who is a master at dealing with water problems in basements. We dug in our basement a couple of years ago in order to get higher ceilings and are now experiencing flooding when it rains heavily. We?ve already tried to solve this problem with our previous contractor but he can?t seem to fix it. Does anyone knows a truly genius person that can fix this?

There will be water outside and you have to do what you can to keep it from heading into the cellar. Our setting seems to be working well so far. We dug out and did front and backyard work at the same time. We were redoing the front yard and sidewalk so the front now has a garden (absorbs a lot of water, but has a water barrier on the house side) and the stone is pitched away from the house. The coal chutes have a gutter that is plumbed into the sewage line. In the back, about 1/3 of the yard from the house is stone and that is pitched to two drains that go to the sewage line and the roof gutter drains into the sewage line. Back 2/3 of the yard are all soil with lots of plants (absorbs lots of water). If you’ve got a mostly hardscaped yard, it should have several drains to take the water to the sewage line.

Are you attached on both sides?

You probably need a french drain to manage the water that’s leaching into the basement. You’ll never control hydrostatic pressure by doing anything to the foundation walls.
