Water Detective

We have water coming in to our basement in several different places (front of house and back) and I really need someone to come in & help me figure out where it’s getting in & how to start sealing things up.  We have water coming in through the electrical box, which the electrition says is a Con Ed problem of the manhole being flooded (have a call in).  But we have water getting in other places as well.  Where do I start?  General contractor? Plumber? Are there people who specialize in this sort of thing? Help!

It’s hard to figure who to call considering that the problem may be one of a few things.  Could be piping related (water or drain pipe), could be foundation related, or maybe a subsurface company to deal with a broken water or sewer main.  It would help to know when the water shows up in the Basement.  Is it constant water coming in?  Does it only happen when it rains?  Or is it random with no pattern?  This may help in determining who to call.  Either way, who ever you call, speak to them for a few minutes first and make sure they sound like they have a chance of helping based on your findings.
