Flood Insurance in Brooklyn?
The recent storm left my basement with a few puddles – which is usual when it rains so heavily. I’m looking into some waterproofing options, inclusing a sump pump. I’m also concerned about further damage – both to the foundation and walls, and to my belongings. A call to my homeowner’s insurance co. told me that I have no coverage for floods or water damage, except if it’s a hurricane. But – they told me about FEMA’s flood insurance program. Does anyone here have any flood insurance? Or any other coverage for water damage, especially in their basements?

We have FEMA flood insurance in Greenpoint. I think it’s $450/year.

I had to purchase flood insurance on a house I once owned in Jersey City, which was in a flood plain. It was an easy buy from Allstate, where I got my general liability and damage coverage, but the flood piece doubled the annual cost of coverage.
