New Hatch Cover
Not so many time ago when I needed a good contractor to clean my windows I found a website where was a list of professionals with different areas of expertise. There you can also find good carpenters: https://www.hirerush.com/anywhere/service/carpenter

The wooden cover for the old coal hatch has rotted away. Does anyone know a carpenter who can build a new one?

Fairly easy d-i-y. Use marine ply.

You might consider having an Ironworks make a hatch out of steel diamondplate; it would be more secure and easier to use.

We had one made by an ironworks and it has lasted more than 20 years with only occasional painting. It has a built a hinged vent to allow air into and out of the basement.

Thanks for your suggestions. I have had a lot of trouble getting iron guys to respond to my calls. My jobs are too small to interest them. I was hoping that a carpenter could duplicate the hatch cover in the front of my house which is wood with a sheet of zinc on top. It’s lasted for years.
