adapting a tv/stereo cabinet
If you don’t need the storage space, I’d get rid of the whole thing. If you do need the storage space, wouldn’t cutting off most of the depth be self-defeating? You could always use a flat screen in there, just sitting towards the front of the unit. Or maybe you just want to cover up the TV when it’s not in use? Personally I think the bulky size of the cabinets that people use to hide electronics to be more room-dominating than the new slim and/or wireless electronics would be sitting on top of a chest or small table.

i have a sold cherry (and solidly built) TV/stereo cabinet that fits an old fashioned tube TV (it’s made by Grange). We’re finally getting a flat screen and would like it to take up less floor space so we’re thinking about cutting off 18-24 inches off the back. impossible task? any carpenters who would do this?
