Use of flexible armored cable on basement ceiling

Hi…I want to connect a new light in the basement of my 3 family brownstone. Does NYC code allow me to run flexible armored conduit (fastened to the ceiling surface) between the power and the light or am I required to use hard metal tube conduit connecting the two? Thanks as always….
