Steel or Wood for Framing?

Hi, We have approved plans for a renovation of our two-family home in Windsor Terrace. We will be demoing most of the walls on the first floor and framing out a bathroom, bedroom, and closet. I was wondering if someone could help me out as to whether galvanized steel or wood framing is preferred under the building code (and where in the code those requirements are). None of these new walls will be load-bearing.
