Pre existing Floor drain basement

If we have a pre existing drain in basement floor next to new hot water heaters but drain leads into floor and not into outside will that pass plumbing inspection? Once we pass is it sufficient to have a pan under the heaters with over flow alarm?

It’s what is called a dry drain – intended to catch water when the boiler ‘thermos’ breaks. As long as it is not connected to a sanitary waste, it is ok.

The inspector will just see that there is a drain, he’s not going to question where it goes.

Will a drain that solely leads into the ground pass inspection or does it need to be attached to a pump and drainage outside into a drainage pipe?

Why would you not use the drain?
