Certificate of occupancy question

I am purchasing a building in brooklyn that has a c of o from 1950\. On it it lists a store and one family on the ground floor and 1 family on each of the upper floors. The c of o was changed in 1970 to a store only on the ground floor and 1 family on each of the upper floors.    Can this be changed back has anyone on here gone through this rocess any recommendations on who I could speak to about this.    Thanks

You will need to bring it up to code, such as fire sprinklers and such. Not a huge problem, other than the money and dust. It is done all the time. As Eric said, you will need to hire an architect for filing with DOB.

You need an architect to file plans with the DOB showing a change of use.  It’s probably more trouble than it’s worth unless you are currently not able to use the building as you would like.  If you file plans and there have been any previous alterations that are not up to current codes and were not filed properly, you will have to fix them.  It could be beneficial from a property tax standpoint though.
