building code for insulation?

I’ve looked high and low for info about NYC building code for insulation.   Is there a place this can be found online?   Anyone have any idea what is required to pass inspection and gain C of O for modern multifamily? Thank you brownstoners. You are always generous sharing your experience

We’re rehabbing a 5 story brownstone in Harlem and were required to have R19 walls and an R39 roof. However, after we passed NYS energy certification we realized that landmarked buildings and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places are exempt from energy certification. If you fall into that category just have proof of historic status ready and they’ll waive the requirement. But seriously – the energy certification issue is something your architect should be taking care of… It involves entering all the criteria of your building into a rather complicated program on the US Deptarment of Energy’s website (they host the applications, but they’re state-specific).

Google 1 RCNY 5000-01 – This is the New York City Energy Code.  It lists the required inspections for a new C of O.  Requirements for thermal insulation are in the New York STATE Energy Code, which can be found here: http://publicecodes.citation.com/st/ny/st/b1200v10/index.htm?bu=NY-P-2010-999999 .  Please note that multiple dwellings are required to comply with the “commercial” portion of the code.  By the way, these documents are dangerous in the hands of non-professionals.  Be sure to speak to an architect or an engineer about your situation.

Your architect can provide you with this info. It should be listed on the drawings. A program is used to input all of the project info, which produces a print out showing the project passes and meets code. The architect or someone needs to be making inspections as required by code and paperwork will be filed to atest that this was completed.
