Good Morning Brownstoner- Happy Holidays- We have a gut reno going on right now and we are looking for someone to replicate all of the original window casings that hold the pocket shutters. I searched the forum and noticed heights woodworking does this kind of work with mixed reviews and a lot of complaints. Can anyone recommend anyone who does this sort of work? Paneling, trim work, millwork, etc-

We used Heights almost 14 years ago. Their product output is wonderful and the owner at the time (Amour) had fantastic workers. The only problem with them was his being a tad disorganized. However if you are willing to sit on them (drive by, call them and befriend the guys who actually do the job) then I think you can get a wonderful effort out of them. If you are the bystander type then yes you should find someone more reliable.

Real Craftsmen are not robots. Things take time to get properly built/crafted etc. Heights woodworking does do wonderful work.

We used Heights last year for a project that cost a huge amount of money and they really screwed it up. My husband – an architect – trusted them because of previous work. They are NOT up to their earlier standards. Woodwork we paid a premium for was measured incorrectly (by them), they attempted a clandestine repair IN PLASTER (not even in wood). Before they admitted this screw up, I got a call from the office asking if these were supposed to be ‘paint grade’. Yes they were, but the trim wasn’t supposed to be kludged together in place. After they left, the doors didn’t even close properly (although they did come back to fix it). Use anyone else for anything that you want to look ok. I think the original owner has retired, and they job out projects to anybody when they’re busy. This was intended to be carpentry and finished installation, and we chased them out and finished the installation ourselves because they were so awful. We were extremely disappointed.

Hello all, please clarify the “Heights” companies you are referring to when you comment, there are several of us (Heights) companies that work in Brooklyn. I am with Heights Historic Window & Door and although I know it was not our company, I would prefer not to be associated with the unsatisfactory work of other similar named companies.

Old World Mouldings and Millwork is set up to do just about anything with tremendous quality and value. You need to provide specs, physical samples, drawings, pictures, species etc. It is more of a trades persons outfit. I am not certain how they handle retail customers. Give them a call! You would need an installer. FYI: This type of work is my passion. I highly respect you for for not ripping everything out!

I’m new to this forum and wondering how to ask StuyHeights a question about their renovation? I am just starting to look around for contractors and renovating on a shoestring budget. Trying to get ball park for what I might be in for and thought Stuyheights had similar project.
