Repairing Cracks in the brownstone
From an aesthetic perspective, I’m not sure you want to use silicon or driveway sealer. If the cracks are in the actual stucco, use a elastomeric concrete paint. It’s a flexible paint that will bridge and seal small cracks and can be color matched. You won’t find it at home depot, but thoroseal is one brand that you can find a masonry suppliers–extech building supplies in red hook. If you knock on the stucco and it sound hollow, you probably need to start thinking about having the stucco redone in the next couple years.

I have hairline cracks in the facade of my brownstone. Can I patch them temporarily with anything? Silicone? some type of masonry sealer?

I definitely wouldn’t use silicone. It leaves a residue even after you remove it so that nothing else will ever stick to the area again. So when you get ready to repair it correctly you would have a problem getting the stucco or whatever brownstone repair material to seal. They make a latex based caulk for cement – something like “Concrete Driveway Repair” I think it’s called and it’s in a caulk tube in the caulk section of Lowes or Home Depot. I’ve used it here to seal a crack in my concrete threshold and it’s held for 3 years now and because my threshold was already old gray concrete, you can barely even tell the crack is there anymore. It’s also paintable, so perhaps you could use some like-color touch-up paint over it for the winter to half way match your brownstone.

Its good that you are repairing it. Yes you can do with silicone.
