Recommendation needed for Mantel Instaler

I need to instal a salvaged marble mantel in my new home. The fireplace is not functional and the mantel is just for show. I got one quote (1,400) that seemed incredibly high considering I have all of the pieces and only need it attached to the brick. Does anyone have a contractor/handyman they can recommend for the job?

Too high.  Get a few more prices from a competent mason with experience.  Someone not that familiar with it will mess it up and charge you for it.

it may not be high if the contractor is taking full responsibility for that thing if he breaks it.  if you hire a handyman at an hourly rate and he breaks it, who pays?    Steve

How long do you expect it will take someone to get masonary supplies, assemble it carefully and then clean up afterwards, leaving a shiny marble surface behind? A week? How much do you make in a week? Hm. Thought so. It sounds high but it might not BE high.

Oh wow, that is expensive! I’m very interested in how much it ends up costing. We’re looking to do a similar thing – install a decorative fireplace mantel.
