Entry way flooring dilemma in brownstone

Hello fellow Brownstoners. I am in need of design device. Currently in the middle of a large -scale renovation (well, it feels large to me) of a Cobble Hill brownstone and need to make a decision about the flooring in my front foyer. Previously, I had the small white hexagonal tile with a border, but the quality of the tiles had really degraded over the years and the deisgn to start with wasn’t so hot (did not align properly with staircase), so we ripped it out and now I am paralyzed about what to put it in. I could just put parquet wood to mimic the living room, but that floor is original with a lot of border design and I think ANOTHER border design might be toomuch, especially as it needs to go all the way down the hallway. I brought in tumbled black and white marble square 4X4s  one day but my contractor sniffed and said “Home Depot.” That was the kiss of death. As you can see, I am highly suggestible. In a perfect world I would use the Moroccan mosaics from Mosaic House, but hello? $90 a square foot. I don’t think so. I am, for what it’s worth, doing a tiny powder room adjoining the space in cement Moroccan black and white tile. I had thought I found the anser with a 2 X 2 black travertine hexagonal tile with black grout. Sort of modern but with an nod to the old, right? But it’s tumbled and I think tumbling is kind of like acid-washed jeans. Not good. Plus, I made themistake of going online and reading  people bitch about how hard it is to keep clean. With a hairy dog and two young boys, that could be an issue. Thoughts? Suggestions?   Many thanks.
