I installed central vac in my brownstone about ten years ago as part of a big renovation and I’m very glad I did. Much more powerful that a regular portable canister vac. Brownstones are perfect for central vac because you only need one vertical tube. At the time of my install the walls were all opened up so it was quite easy to do. One thing to note is that there should be an electrical outlet close to the vacuum hookup on each floor (so that you can use the power attachments). Mine is an Electrolux system. I don’t have the installer’s name handy but may be able to dig it out.

Thanks for your reply. We will be opening up walls too so it seems like a great investment. Did you install the retractable hoses? If you could find your installer ‘s information that would be fantastic since I’m having trouble tracking down someone in the city. Thanks again
