Bell Contracting-good? Stanley the Carpenter - bad.

Has anyone had experience with Brooklyn based contractor Bell Contracting? We’re looking to do stucco on the back of our house. I can warn you off the carpenter named Stanley. Don’t have his last name but he’s from Poland. Very thoughtful and probably a good carpenter – horrible business man. Has been stringing us along for months but can never shows up. Avoid him.

PS to Stanley the Carpenter post.  He bid my bathroom job at $5,000.  I just got it beautifully done by a master carpenter for $1,000.  Enough said.

As I said in my post – I’m sure Stanley is a good carpenter.  And as I said he is a lousy businessman.   Stanley looked at the job in January – didn’t bid the job until Feb.  Agreed to come in mid April.  We agreed because he came recommended and seemed very astute. Never showed or called.  Never sent contract or insurance as requested.  We finally got him after he said he’d be there and he said the next week.  No word.  We had to call him and asked him if he could really do the job.  He apologized and said two weeks.  No word from him again.  Finally called him in June – and he’s out of the country till July.  We wanted our bathroom fixed back in Jan.  6 months ago.  This is pretty much the worst thing a contractor can do – string you along.  Either take the job or don’t.

I have used Stanley. Many of my neighbors have used him in the SSlope. He is a excellent carpenter and everyone I have ever recommended him to has been very happy. Stanley is a hands on guy who shows up every day with his crew to work. He is a perfectionist and usually doesn’t take on more than one job at a time so once he commits you never have trouble finding him. He also does big jobs and entire gut renovations so clients want to add on lots of extras at the end when they see how well things turn out.
