Architect needed for existing extension renovation

We have been living in our 2 family Brownstone w/small extension since 1969\. The extension is wood framed with a stucco facade on a concrete slab. It is one story high and is does not run the full length of the house (maybe 3/4 the width of the home). There is no bathroom or appliance in this room…it is more or less an empty shell with a few outlets. We have concerns about the integrity of the existing structure and would like to demolish it and build a new 1 story extension similar to the current extension but we would like it to run the full length of the house. We need an architect to draw up plans and have no idea where to start. Also, we have a strict budget to work with and could really use some guidance (ie, suggestions for architects and contractors for small jobs). Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you! CF

I had a really good experience with Palette Architecture. They are finishing up a full gut renovation of a landmarked townhouse in Fort Greene and have been responsive to our needs and a pleasure to work with. The rates for design services were reasonable and they were conscious of the budget limitations that we had for the project. There has been good communication throughout the process. Depending on the architect that you hire, they may have contractors that they’ve worked with in the past that they’ll be able to refer to you. However, it’s always worth looking into their referrals and doing your own due diligence. As for finding the architect and other contractors, this website below helps you find contractors in your area for free and provides some detailed info on the things you should have in place before you hire anyone to do work on your home.
