Brooklyn Boiler Conversion

We are going to convert from oil to natural gas, and we want to make sure that the boiler room is to code (We’re doing it with permits). We have a two-family row-house. We are putting up a metal ceiling, but is there a shorthand list of other requirements? I’ve been looking at the city code but I’m unable to figure out the exact requirements for a one or two family home. There will be a sing 175 BTU boiler and one 50-gallon water heater. For what its worth, it is separated from the rest of the basement by a dividing wall that is covered in 5/8″ sheetrock on both sides. There are two fire-rated doors (one to exterior, one to the rest of the basement). The other walls in the boiler room are masonry.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the duct work for the fresh air intake? I need to put in a 144 sq inch duct pipe (per my architect & NYC DOB). Thanks! Jim

Fresh air intake is not about efficiency of the boiler, it is about type of boiler. Room dependent or room independent( sealed combustion). Any boiler can be installed as room air dependent. Some, not only high efficiency ones, can be installed both ways.

Your licensed plumber that is doing the work and I assume pulling the permit; will help you with all of this. Do not waste your time trying to work out what all the codes are; they change every other day these days it seems. So leave it to the specialists and expect there to be some changes before it is all finished. And once started do not delay, or there will be more changes….:)
