Boiler off 0-PIS and low water light on

Hi, We recently bought a 2 family building.  The heat has been working fine for the past week, but today it stopped.  I went down to check out the  boiler and noticed that the low water light is on, and that the preassure guage reads 0psi.    I don’t know a thing about boilers.  Does anyone know a good place I could read up on them, and perhaps what I ought to do about this problem?   Thanks

For what it’s worth, that’s a very old boiler you’ve got there, but it looks like it was very well installed. It’s rare to see the piping done so well on what is probably a late ’70s-to-mid-80’s installation.

about that rusty water, read the book and learn how to visit your boiler once a week to drain water off the feeder nice thing about an oil fired boiler was that they sent someone over to walk one through everything so they didn’t end up with weekly service calls – but who wants an oil burner these days if you have the choice?

You need to find the valve that is turned off, that when you turn it on, adds water to your boiler….OR, you need to identify your automatic water feeder and push the manual “feed” button, and then have someone figure out why it didn’t work on its own. If you can post a wide pic of your boiler and the immediate surrounding piping, I can probably direct you through getting it started.
