Old factory sinks...

I’ve just bought two of these sinks.  I want to reglaze and replumb them.  Does anyone have experience with these trough sinks that could lend some advice?  Thanks.

I second Alfano.  There is also a salvage place in Kingston that has a lot of plumbing parts.  stanthejunkman.com/ and Morpar, I have not used Tub King.  I am against that form of restoration.  Don’t like the look or feel of the finished product.

As to the plumbing, I don’t know about trough sinks specifically and can’t figure out the picture here but the two places in town that have old plumbing parts and can make anything you need are Alfano Plumbing in Queens and New York Replacement Parts in Manhattan. If you are after new but historically accurate reproduction fixtures, the quality of Sign of the Crab/Strom is excellent.

The name of the company in the midwest is Custom Ceramic Coatings, located in Lenzburg, Il. Phone is 618- 475-2710\. Unfortunately, the tiny chemical company that made the porcelain they use has gone out of business, and the only other porcelain they can get does not work on cast iron, only steel. So if your sink is steel they will fix it but if it’s cast iron, you’ll have to wait until they find a workaround. They are very nice and I found their prices pretty reasonable even with shipping — perhaps because my sink is tiny (19×16). Alternatively, you can have someone here in town powder coat it as you would do with a radiator. Again, it’s just paint but they do sand blast it and bake it at high heat, so it’s better than the paint stuff that someone like Tub King does. DoorSixteen powder coated a bathroom sink (upstate) and says it’s wearing well. After all this research, I decide my very brittle and already somewhat split and cracked sink can’t take all the sand blasting, so I’m going to have the paint people do their thing until I can find a replacement. The paint method is not recommended for kitchen sinks, and if your sinks are in basically good condition even if stained, you might be better off using them as is, since the reglazing removes the porcelain.

“reglazing” is just a specialized paint that does not look like or feel like porcelain.  It does not last either.  usually starts peeling around the drain area.  There is a company in the midwest (ohio) area that will sandblast and bake a new porcelain enamel on the cast iron.  Becomes costly due to shipping and process.  There may be someone closer as that research is three years old.  Love the style of sink.  The flaws are part of the charm imo. If you want the paint however, search craigslist for the “tub king”.  Located on LI, but will pick up and deliver.
