Seeking Recommendations for New High-End Fridge

Looking to replace fridge: bottom-mount, counter-depth (24″), 36″ wide, 82-84″ high. We have a Viking for 10 years and have had nothing but trouble with it and spent a fortune to service it. Seems that other brands in this space are SubZero, KitchenAid, Thermador, Jenn-Air, Miele, Bosch, Liebherr and Gaggenau. Any recommendations for refrigerators that work in the long run? Thanks very much.

Not as high end, but I’ve had a very good LG counter depth fridge for 8 years and it looks and works great. My brother’s very expensive GE Monogram just crapped out after 2 years last week.

Our Miele is AWESOME. Incredible design, food stays fresh for considerably longer than it did with our old LG fridge and they were very responsive when we had a service issue. Definitely recommend shelling out for the extended warranty as the repair cost for what may have been a computer malfunction would have been considerable, but since they made that change, we’ve had no problems whatsoever. We have the side by side units but I’m sure their other models are equally good. Hands down the best choice we have made (besides our bluestar rangetop, which is my version of heaven). You won’t regret getting the top of the line if you get Miele for your fridge. Having done extensive research before making this purchase, I assure you there is no better option. We had a Viking 40″ fridge until last year that was almost 20 years old with not one problem other than a broken ice maker (which was the same as a whirlpool part and I got for 1/4 the price of a Viking branded replacement). That said, their refrigerator problems were legendary. I have lots of friends who have the 36″ SZ fridge over freezer who are fans, and at least one with a GE Monogram who is also a fan. I don’t know of anyone with the Miele, but in my view the interior is better planned than the SZ. I wanted to buy the Miele for renovations in both a weekend home and our apartment, but the Miele size options didn’t work for us. We have two SZs and are happy despite the insane price.

I should mention that we bought BlueStar for cooking appliances so spent a fortune there…we didn’t want a fridge with, what I call, bow and arrow handles and we literally couldn’t be happier. Storage on this unit is endless…more than what you’d think and its less than 4k.

We got a counter-depth Sub-Zero fridge second-hand from craigs list. (A luxe-condo dweller was combining 2 units & removing a kitchen.) It fit sweetly in our row house, galley kitchen and has been totally excellent mechanically, visually, and in every way for 8+ years. They aren’t cheap tho – they retail for nearly 10K new

Two friends of mine had hideous problems w/ GE Profile & another found Samsung to be awful. I have a Whirlpool that’s still fine after 32 years. Had to replace freezer fan once.

I didn’t even know Viking made fridges. Sub Zero essentially invented the “counter depth” market and have probably been in it the longest. Although I have never had one, I know many who have and have had no problems with them. With Miele, Bosch, Liebherr and Gaggenau you may run into problems getting them serviced if needed down the road. I suspect all the American brands, to the extent they make counter depth models, are pretty much identical but in that market, I think GE Profile was there first and longest. Talk to appliance dealers, NOT kitchen designers.
