How to Install Washer Dryer on third floor of Brownstone?

I’m trying to replaced the stacked washer dryer on the third floor of a Brownstone, but all the new units are larger than the old stacked unit and I can’t find anyone with suggestions for getting the new one into the old spot (27 wide by 27 deep by 81 tall). My old unit was 24 inched deep and made it up the stair which are 25 inches wide. Has anyone worked with a contractor or appliance company on this? I don’t care if I have to remove the railing or bring it in through the upstairs window, i do need suggestions on where to turn.

THANK YOU EVERYONE! You were right – Drimmers did it! 4.3 Cubic Foot washer and 7.5 Cubic Foot Dryer up three flights in a narrow Brownstone. They said they might have to dismantle the railings, but they sent John from JS Installations to survey it for them and he said we could fit anything in the space and he would use enough people to lift it over the railings. We didn’t have to dismantle the railings. We didn’t have to go through a window. More shocking, the price, the installation and the hookup were all lower than I got quoted anywhere else.

Thank you to both of you. I’m definitely hoping to get another washer capable of doing 4 cubic feet of wash at once. I called on one of the smaller units and was told it would do 1.2 cubic feet. Some of the Euro units require 220 service and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get the largest unit. I’m going to try Drimmers first and pray I don’t wind up with a 24 by 24 unit. as the cabinet was built for a 27inch wide. I can’t believe units have gotten so much deeper over the past few years.

There are definitely washers and dryers that can fit.  Check out front loaders made to fit beneath counters.  They are typically 24″ wide x 24″ deep x 34″ high.

We had a hard time getting our new refrigerator into our garden level basement: it couldn’t go under the stoop and it wouldn’t make it around the corner of the staircase to go down. We had 2 failed attempts and kept thinking it was the refrigerator size. Then we called Drimmers (718) 773-8483 and they figured out that they should go through an empty lot behind our place and over the fence straight into the kitchen door. It’s not the  same situation as you, but they are experts in dealing with the constraints of unusual NYC architecture. Give them a try! Good luck.
