Adding a washer and dryer to 4th floor Brownstone co-op

I wanted to install a washer and dryer in my co-op. The project would probably entail: 1) cutting through some wall to make space for the appliances 2) tapping into drainage lines 3) tapping into water supply lines 4) adding dedicated outlet and running it to the breaker box.  What are some of the considerations for this project and, of course, what might it cost?

>Also a ventless dryer limits you to a small 24″ dryer and you also need 220v electric.Levi Jeez, for an appliance store you’re pretty behind the times. LG, amongst others, makes a 15 and a 22lb (that’s large) one-unit washer-dryer for 120v. Just Google it. Iae, if OP has to run an electric line, 220 is just as easy.

Levi, Do you think vibrations would be a consideration?  What about the drainage of suds in an old building?  OP: Has your co-op approved this?

The first thing to consider is where you will placing the machines. If there is water, electric, and gas in close proximity to the machines then its not a big project.  Take into consideration that there are two sizes of washers and dryers- 24″ and 27″. Will you be stacking them or will they be side x side? Is there a nearby window or opening to the outside to vent the dryer should you get a gas dryer? If not then you are forced to get a 24″ electric condensation dryer. If there is water, electric, gas, and venting nearby it should not be a big deal. Call me or email me if you need additional help. My info is in the Brownstoner Directory under appliances. Levi Capland

Another thing to consider is venting the steam from the dryer to the outside. I believe this is one of the bigger obstacles as it sometimes involves knocking a hole in the outside wall of your building. You could go with a ventless dryer but they take forever to dry the clothes.
