What is my 1800's French fireplace mantle worth?

**I HAVE AN ANTIQUE LOUIS XV FRENCH FIREPLACE MANTLE FROM THE 1800’S.  IT IS MADE OF A BEAUTIFUL SHINNY BLACK MARBLE WITH VERY LIGHT TOUCHES OF WHITE.  THE FRONT SCREEN IS NOT AN ANTIQUE.  I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNEW WHAT IT IS WORTH OR IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR ME, BECAUSE I DON’T HAVE ANY MONEY RIGHT NOW TO PAY FOR AN APPRAISAL.  ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. It’s hard to say for sure from the photo, which I suspect doesn’t do it justice, but replacement value and auction value are two very different animals.  Olde Goode Things would probably put a price tag of $2500 to $3,000 on it, but offer you $500 or less.  Is it a stand alone, or attached to the wall?  I can’t tell from the photo, but it looks as though that’s an electric fire?  If someone has to remove it, that will affect the price as well.  I buy mantles when I run across them for a reasonable price and then stockpile them to use on restoration projects,  but I’ve put a moratorium on myself, they are one of those things that even if the style fits the space, then the color has to be what you’re looking for, and then the dimensions have to fit.  That’s one of the reasons why you can’t really blame the salvage places for the huge markups, they can hold a mantle for years before finding a buyer.  When you find someone who wants your particular mantle, they’ll usually pay a premium, but finding a buyer can be tough.  Sorry, I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but it has been my experience.  Maybe others on the site have had different experiences.
