Brass Doorknob Repair

We have lovely doorknobs we’d like to repair and return to their rightful place, but the spindle is stuck in one of them (maybe it broke off, not really sure) …has anyone had any luck with this type of project?

Spindles are not one-size fits all; they are specific to their mortise locks (whether by length, segmentation, tapering, etc.). Call Roy Vaccaro at NY Old Iron (917-837-3039) in the Lowe’s parking lot 9th Street entrance, between 2nd and Smith, or go before noon to catch him in person. Also, ask him to put you in touch with Dutch, who is a master at fixing old mortises and creating keys to fit.

Have you loosened the set screw to try to get the spindle out? I’ve assembled a lot of these & it’s not hard if you hhave parts that fit.
