Upgrading Skylights

I have three sky lights in the top unit of my brownstone. Currently, the skylights are the kind that can’t open. I want to upgrade the skylights to the type that can open and close- that way the heat at the top of the building can be released. Anyone, have an idea of costs for this type of project? Should I look for a general contractor or someone that specializes in sky lights?

I used Premier four years ago for my whole roof, which included a couple of skylights. Four winters and two hurricanes later, I’m still satisfied. I don’t know if they do specifically what you’re asking.

FYI, of the 5 skylights of various brands, sizes, ages and functionality I have in my main roof and extension roof, the Velux is the only one that leaked and the leak was between the glass and the glass frame.

Estimate was to replace existing skylights, existing openings. Openable skylights run 700-1000 each retail, so the installation price seemed quite good to me. Estimate was from Premier Roofing. Had to postpone the job to next season, so I can’t comment on them, other than the estimate.

A roofer is your best bet. We just got a quote to do this on our home, it was about $3500 to do just the skylights (with no leak guarantee), or about $7,500 to do the whole roof plus new skylights with 10-year guarantee (FWIW). This was for two openable and one fixed skylight.

MuY guess is that a GC can do the job rather than a window contractor. Ceck out Velux windows
