Unwanted backyard guests

Call the police and say you hearing noise inside the garage, do it 2 times a week and I think they will get the point that they are not wanted around.

I have a vexing problem. I live in South Park Slope and my landlord owns a number of adjacent buildings and garages. My backyard currently consists of a small patio area that I use, plus 5 garages and a lot of pavement. One of the garages was just rented to two of his friends, two semi-retired painters. These two guys now spend much of their days and evening drinking beer in my backyard, and one of them is now sleeping in the garage every night. I have spoken to my landlord but he has done nothing about it. The land is zoned mixed-use, but I don’t think this is one of the mixed uses it is intended for. I would like my privacy back and I don’t think I have to share my back yard with these guys. If call 311 the landlord will know it was me, making the situation worse. Any other ideas?

When you say your backyard, are you the sole first floor tenant with private access to the backyard?

That is correct. Access is from my back door and a driveway with a locked gate. Everyone who rents a garage in the back has a key.

If all the garages have a key to “your” back yard, unless it is clearly spelled out in the lease that it is exclusively “your” back yard, how is it your back yard? If it is spelled out in the lease that it is your exclusive back yard. Then you should write to the landlord and specifically ask the landlord to make that point clear to the garage tenants.
