@ resident 2 I think your analysis is based on the 1990-2000 census changes. While there certainly had been a reduction in the number of brownstones occupied as multiple dwellings or SROs, and many of them have been coverted to one or two family homes, from 1990 – 2000, I would suggest that those kind of changes have slowed significantly since 2000 as inventory has been eliminated. But the number of large condos and rentals on 4th Avenue with literally hundreds of units built from 2000-2010, and with more coming on line since then, have to have grown the total number of residents. @ the OP – Given the slow down in construction after the crash, there havent been that many new buildings opening between 2010 and today. While the growth is probably not zero, and there are some new smaller building in Gowanus proper, the growth in new residents in the entire area from 2010 to today is small. As a resource the NYC Department of City Planning is good. Subway data may be helpful, but you really have to look at peak am ridership to find residents. Clubs and other new venues in Gowanus grow total subway ridership. Let us know how the meeting goes.

Long story, but I have to go to a meeting tomorrow where it is being argued that there has been zero population growth in the Park Slope/Gowanus area based on a 2010 census report. As well all know, a load has changed in 4 years, particularly in Gowanus. I’m doing my own online research, but I know there are people on Brownstoner who are pretty passionate about this, so if you can point to any reports or articles I should look at, or even (and this is a big one) list some of the apartment buildings that have sprung up on 4th Ave and the vicinity over the past 3 or 4 years, I would be ever so grateful. There probably is zero increase in population. Obviously there has been significant change in population. It used to be that a family of 4 or more lived in an average floor through apartment, now it is a single person, 1! Apartment buildings that used to house large families now house singles & couples with a cat! No large groups of shares anymore either. No more rooming houses; Brownstones that used to house 15-20 SRO tenants now have a professional couple with one child and a dog!

I bet you can find figures on increase of ridership at the 4th Avenue subway station. My casual observation is that many more people are entering and exiting the system at that station than were just a few years ago.
